Last summer all of my children lived at home. This summer Number 1 Son has totally moved out, Dr. Doolittle is at her boyfriend’s part of the time and at our house the rest of the time until she goes back to her home in Gainesville, and Fashionista will move to Orlando August 19. It is a time of transition for all of us. I have mixed emotions about all of this. Some days I am excited by the free time I will have, other times I wonder what I will do not seeing my kids every day.
I always feel I should come home after work, be there, cook, do all those mom things. It doesn’t matter the youngest is 20, my mom gene kicks in strong. When the girls leave in August I won’t feel the need to be home as much. I wonder what that will be like. I hope I stay excited and don’t get in a blue funk. I have been doing some things in anticipation of the empty nest. I started to take online classes at FIT in New York, I am redecorating bedrooms, I am on a mission to increase and streamline my accounting business, and I have started this blog. I have a lot to keep me busy; we’ll just have to see if it works.
What do you do to occupy your time and your mind?
